Bombardier Receives $282 Million Investment from Canada

Bombardier is poised to receive a boost in funding for its C Series and Global 7000 jet programs.

The Montreal-based jet maker announced this week it will receive roughly $282 million ($372.5 million in Canadian dollars) in interest-free loans over the next four years from the Canadian government.

Garmin Gains EASA Approval of G5 Flight Display

Garmin today announced European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approval of the G5 electronic flight instrument for installation in certified general aviation airplanes in Europe. The approval covers light airplanes weighing less than 2,700 kilograms (5,952 pounds), and follows a similar STC for the non-TSO’d display approved by the FAA last summer.

Bowing to City Pressure, FAA Agrees to Close Santa Monica Airport

santa_monica_airport_fbosThe FAA has thrown in the towel in the fight for Santa Monica Airport, striking a compromise deal with local officials that will permit the city to shorten the runway from about 5,000 feet to 3,500 feet within a year and close the airport forever at the end of 2028.

The city is already laying plans to shorten the runway, a move that would prevent most large business jets from using the airport that is a favourite of Hollywood A-listers. Santa Monica must give the FAA 30 days’ notice before altering the runway, after which it can take over services from airport FBOs — though the city must continue selling leaded avgas, according to the FAA.

A 30-nautical-mile temporary flight restriction will be in force whenever President Trump is at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, the government has said.

Whenever Donald Trump visits Mar-a-Lago, his 126-room, 110,000-square-foot estate in Palm Beach, Florida, a presidential TFR will ring the property for a radius of 30 nautical miles to an altitude of 17,999 feet, a restriction that will impact pilots, corporate aircraft operators and countless aviation businesses in South Florida.

Bill-HamiltonBill Hamilton will be inducted into the Nebraska Aviation Hall of Fame on Jan. 26, 2017, during the silver anniversary of the Nebraska Aviation Symposium, which he helped found 25 years ago.

Hamilton was nominated for induction into the hall of fame by former Nebraska Governor Charles Thone.

“The aircraft conducted itself perfectly, meeting the expectations of the design parameters while showing excellent performance,” says Quirino Bucci, a test pilot for Leonardo’s aircraft division.
