Drayton air crash jury considers verdict

Nicholas-Rice-and-Mike-Blee-died-in-the-collision-at-Drayton-in-2009A jury at the inquest into the deaths of an RAF reservist and a young cadet in an air crash in Oxfordshire has retired to consider its verdict.

Nicholas Rice, 15, from Calcot, near Reading, and Flt Lt Mike Blee, 62, of Abingdon, died after their aircraft hit a glider at Drayton, in 2009.

Duxford-air-show-crashA pilot lost sight of another plane at a Cambridgeshire air show resulting in a mid-air collision, the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said.

The accident, involving a P-51 Mustang and a Skyraider, took place at Duxford Flying Legends show on 10 July 2011.

Micron CEO Steve Appleton dies in plane crash

Steve-AppletonSteve Appleton, the chief executive and chairman of Micron, has died in a plane crash near the airport at Boise, Idaho.

Appleton, 51, a professional stunt plane pilot, was flying a small, experimental fixed-wing plane.

Pilot indicted in crash of Cessna twin

A New Hampshire pilot was indicted on Friday on charges of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the New Year’s Day 2011 crash of a Cessna 310 that killed his daughter.

A grand jury indicted Stephen Fay, 57, for the death of Jessica Malin after it was determined that Fay was piloting his twin-engine Cessna without a multiengine rating when it crashed on a nighttime approach to Runway 19 at Orange Municipal Airport in western Massachusetts.

Scuba divers find rare World War II aircraft

Rare WWII aircraftRandy Jordan went for a dive last week off the coast of Jupiter, Fla. — one of about 600 he does yearly as the owner of Emerald Charters, a scuba diving charter.

A group of frightened fish led  Jordan to the discovery of  what might be a Curtiss Helldiver SB2C, an extremely rare World War II aircraft submerged in 200 feet of water four miles at sea.

Shetland blasted by hurricane wind

The-coastguard-helicopter-was-scrambled-in-hurricane-force-windsFour thousand homes are reported to be without power in Shetland, after hurricane-force winds blasted the islands on Christmas Day.

Gusts of up to 100mph were recorded. A helicopter dealing with a medical emergency was said to have been blown backwards by the wind.
